This series of intricate pencil and ink illustrations began as a self-imposed creative challenge, how far can an artist get while using the simplest tools? Many of the works in the series were made using nothing but one HB mechanical pencil.
Treating the limited medium like a puzzle, April focused on giving these pieces life through line work, realism, and creative subject matter.

April’s study of floriography influenced many of these pieces. As she explains, she would tease out a primary emotion from an interesting face or striking expression, then create the piece incorporating flowers corresponding to that emotion.
